The Handkerchief

This painting is one of only 2 paintings I have ever finished. I painted it shortly after returning from a mission trip to Mexico in the summer of 2004. It was my 3rd year going, and I felt inspired upon our return to the U.S. My wire art was still developing, so I tried my hand at painting. I liked it so much that I tried again, but nothing has ever come the same way.

I gave the painting to one of the leaders on the trip because she had the actual photograph of this scene. I did not know that their was a photo when I painted it, but it seemed appropriate when I found out that she should have both.

The piece is not actually entitled "The Handkerchief" but I do not recall the actual title.

$15 Plane Rides

This piece is made out of 2 wires because I made it too big and had to cut it to fit the frame. The background is just torn up paper. It is entitled "$15 Plane Rides" after a sign seen at a small airport.
.
Today, Christopher and I have been dating for 2 years. I made him this wire art because just before we started dating, we went to Newnan together to meet some friends for dinner. We got lost on the way there and ended up at a small airport. I was so excited to see the planes that I jumped out of the car and ran to take pictures. When I ran back to the car and got in, I told Chris that I only wished I had touched one of them.
.
On our way back to LaGrange that night he asked me if I wanted to go back and see the planes again. I hesitated, but said no that we could just go home. Chris drove right past the exit. When I looked over at him, he just smiled. We both got out and walked around the airplanes, and yes, I even touched one. It was that night, before we were dating, that I fell in love with Christopher.

The Band

I was just flipping through some photos on my computer when I found this picture of my brother's room and realized that I never posted it to my site. This is obviously not wire, but it is, in my opinion, some of my best artwork.
.
When my sister went to college, my brother moved into her room, but it stayed a rather girly shade of yellow for a long time. One summer, he left to go on a mission trip and my mom and I re-decorated his room while he was away. I drew each of the figures by hand onto black matboard. Then I cut them out with an exact-o knife. The drum set was the most difficult because I did not know how exactly it was supposed to look. As you can see (and as my brother pointed out upon returning) there is no high hat or cymbal.
.
Anyways, I just thought I'd post this oldy-but-goody.

The Lost Sheep

A friend asked me to do my rendition of "The Lost Sheep" by Alfred Soord. She probably intended for it to be my traditional 3-dimensional figures, but I felt inspired to do this one in a flat style. It's in a poster frame, so it's the second largest piece I've done.

Here is the semi-finished product and the finished product.

The Trilogy of Friends

I am not normally one to draw, seeing as my sketches tend to leave me frustrated with my lack of skills. I actually started sketching this piece because I was trying to imitate the wire art "drawing" that Bart does. I wanted to see if I could put some basic lines on paper and then attempt to form them from wire. I decided to use a photo of my 2 best friends and I, but once I got the basic outline, I liked it so much I kept filling in more detail. This may be the best sketch I have ever done.

"Rising Hope" ?

I made this piece for the art auction held at LaGrange College to raise money for Invisible Children. 100 % of the proceeds went to the cause. I don't recall how much it was auctioned for, or even what I named it. This one may have been called "Rising Hope." They also auctioned "Desperation" and "Jacob's Cry" listed here in earlier posts.

"Learning to Fly"

This piece, entitled "Learning to Fly," I made for my boyfriend, Christopher. He likes superheroes, and late one night I was inspired to make this piece - a little boy running in his favorite red "cape." I hand stitched a wire into the edge of the fabric so that I could make the cape flow as if with movement. This is possibly the piece that I like most.

"Still Danicing"

This is the wall wire art that I made for my grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary. I think I'm going to title it "Still Dancing." This is the first piece of flat wire art that I have done. Flat is used in a limited sense, because in reality, the couple's arms are actually off of the background, as is his flipped tie and a flip in her dress. I was inspired to try flat wire art by Bart Soutendijk, http://www.wirewallart.com/. He is extremely talented.

"Spread the Light"

"Spread the Light"

I made this piece for some family friends that were moving. They are great spiritual leaders, and I wanted to remind them that God has plans for them to spread the light wherever they go.
